How To: Landscape Shooting Workshop
Instructor: Lisa Murzin
BIO
Murzin is an active member of Ontario Society of Artists, and Gallery 44, Centre for Contemporary Photography. Murzin holds a Humanities diploma and Certificate in Still Photography from Ryerson University. She transitions comfortably between her personal and professional work, between black & white and colour images and between film and digital technologies. Drawn to the slow time and solitary space of her darkroom, Murzin sees making prints as a meditative practice that manifests in her final images. The textures and rhythms of old-school film development nurture Murzin’s creativity in an increasingly pixelated world. No matter what the medium, Murzin’s images foreground transition: the time and space between states and subjects. |
11am-3pm
Photographer Lisa Murzin will take a group of shooters on an excursion to Evergreen Brickworks where she will demonstrate the ins and outs of shooting landscape while helping students develop their photographic style. Running through composition, cropping and colour, Lisa will helps shooters use their cameras as a tool. Following the workshop, Lisa will go over the images taken with participants. What to expect
The workshop will begin with an introduction to landscape photography. Lisa will be presenting examples from various artists and participants will be asked to discuss what draws them to each photograph. As a group, the photographers will travel to Evergreen Brickworks where Lisa will give basic instruction on composition and framing, but allow time for students to go off on their own.
A critique session will follow back at 1840 Danforth where images will be printed and dissected. Students who wish to have a hard copy of their image for discussion should use their smart phones for capturing. |
How To: Cyanotype Workshop
Instructor: Paulette Michayluk
Instructor: Paulette Michayluk
BIO
Paulette has always liked taking pictures and, after taking a lot of photographs, she still does. But printing a photograph fuels her. She became interested in antique photographic processes when she realized that darkrooms were beginning to disappear and the knowledge of how to print a photograph was becoming obsolete. By learning how to control every aspect of a photograph, Paulette is able to continue doing what she loves - making images. Paulette studied art at the Alberta College of Art and Design and Psychology at the University of Alberta, but it was through printing with Bob Carnie that she became educated in the intricacies of photography and photographic printing. She has had the honour of working with many other photographers and printers over the years to further her education and share what she have learned; she looks forward to working with many more. |
11am-3pm
This simple cyanotype workshop will teach participants how to print in their home or studio. Paulette will run through the most basic techniques all the way to more advanced embellishments. This workshop will teach the foundation of what is possible with cyanotype. What to expect
Paulette will begin the workshop by going through the history of printing cyanotype. Students will work in pairs to hand coat paper, expose the paper and try out fun embellishment techniques. Images will be supplied unless the student contacts us before hand.
Some time will be spent discussing the creation of negatives for this contact printing process. |
